Kirsten Lancee defended GA against allegations of sexual interference and sexual assault of a minor.
Before Kirsten was retained, GA had pled guilty with assistance of a different lawyer and was in custody.
Kirsten reviewed the file and convinced the Crown to consent to GA’s release, as she was concerned
about the validity of the guilty plea. Upon further receipt of disclosure, it became evident that the
allegations made by the child complainant were false. Additionally, the Court received evidence from an
interpreter that GA had been pressured to enter a guilty plea. The Crown agreed that GA should be
permitted to vacate his guilty plea. Upon Kirsten filing an application to vacate the guilty plea, the Court
ordered that the conviction against GA be quashed. GA was not guilty and GA has no criminal record as a
result.
